We Need You!

There has been so much going on in the world right now and mostly, I have been seeing how there has been awareness everywhere on social media about what is going on in some parts of the world, especially in Africa. One of the hardest things for me to do is sometimes when I just post or talk about these issues without having actively taken part in them. I feel guilty for some reason, like I'm not doing enough... and then I just reach that point where I ghost Instagram, Twitter and WhatsApp for days and eventually weeks because it gets too much for me.
A few weeks ago, young people all over Namibia went in uproars over the rape and gender based violence. The biggest reason behind the protests where after #bringshannonhome hashtag started trending on social media and after support was shown, the youth sprung to action. That was one of the first times that I can think of where in such a short period of time, during a time like this, action was taken so fast and so loud that now its almost on everywhere and people around the world are being made aware of this.
I recently only reinstalled my Instagram again and the other thing that filled my feed was what is currently happening in Nigeria. Similar posts had been shared by celebrities, artists, meme pages, awareness pages and most importantly individuals that I follow. Within a short period of time, after seeing all the most terrifying pictures, reading about the torture and the police brutality, I became aware of just how much of a bad situation this is and how our fellow Africans need all the help they can get to put a stop to this brutality.
Countries such as Cameroon, Congo and South Africa also have hashtags...all raising awareness so that people around the world can know just how troubled they are. No, I am not that well informed right now, but I urge you to follow up on this stories, share on social media and make as much noise as you can about it so that we can help each other. This needs just as much attention as the BLM movement or any other environmental campaign that we would be going crazy for.
Search '#ENDSARS' or 'what is happening in Nigeria right now' on Google and read if you would like to know more about the rest of the countries that need your and my help right now!
