Phenomenal Women
Just earlier today I was thinking about women, girls..the female. I wanted to talk about how strong we are, how beautiful we are and how great we can be, but my brain didn't want to open up and instead I made a post about something else. A few minutes ago I came across a poem that said everything just as I wished I had said it, and it's beautifully written. Below is the work of a friend of a friend of mine, read till the end to find out more about this talented writer!
WOMEN
I am a creation of generations and generations of phenomenal women
This kinky hair and this dimpled chin, similar to my mothers
This body, as imperfect as it is, a build-up of DNA of great women
I have the blood of generations and generations of women who bore the King Davids and Samuels of your era
Women who were gifted with the profound power of molting two beings at the same time in that very belly she now despises because it's not as flat anymore
My speech… bold as though I carry an army of black women on my shoulders
My brain… very lush, as though I grow a knowledge plantation on my cortex
I am a creation of generations and generations of phenomenal women
I have grown up bearing witness to sacrifices these women make
Walking on hot coal as though heat was made for their feet
Women who could be ladies when it was required of them but never settled because that was the norm
Women who learned to carry their young in one hand as they scrapped dirty floors with the other
Floors that I will walk on!
I have full knowledge to be fully womanly and duly a representative of these generations and generations of phenomenal women!

What a great poem!

The one thing that inspired me to repost this on my blog was that I want to give exposure to other writers and poets. It might not be a lot now but I know the feeling of putting your work out there and have other people read it, apart from your family members and classmates. Do feel free to let me know if you want a repost or you just want to share a story, it would be my pleasure.
P.S Share as much as you can!
